  1. And this crappy little POS Flexplorer can’t even tow but 5000 pounds. What a joke! It wouldn’t even tow my tractor! My ’94 Explorer 4×4 will tow anything I hook to it.

  2. @mrpflum
Yes. And FWD is not an “option”. It’s the standard drivetrain. AWD is the “option”. I have no problem with the 3.5L DOHC V-6. However, I prefer a REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE SUV with a frame under it, a real 4×4 system with an actual low-range transfer case, and a big honkin’ American V-Freakin-8 engine under the hood. This little Flexplorer is an insult to the Explorer name and heritage. It doesn’t deserve to wear the name.

  3. So basically the only thing that you’re upset about is that it has a FWD option? The 3.5 V6 TiVCT puts out 290hp with 4WD and capable of towing 5000lb , and besides, is the American market ready for a 400hp Explorer? Now I think they should’ve went with the 3.7 to up the towing capacity, but waste of Explorer name it is not

  4. @mrpflum You can’t be serious.

  5. No doubt this Explorer is different from previous models, however, it still lives up to the name and breed

  6. If they were so intent on putting the Explorer on a unibody, the proper course of action would have been to import the Ford Territory SUV from Australia. It’s based on the REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE Falcon platform and is RWD/AWD with a 4.0L DOHC Inline-6 that makes 300hp or so. There is also an FPV version with a turbocharged 4.0L six that makes about 400hp. Now I would buy THAT! I wouldn’t touch this new FWD joke with a 10 ft cattle prod. What a waste of the Explorer name.

@surfingerman wait are you for this thing? or what

  8. how can they call it an explorer.. pray tell what am i going to explore in a shitty carf rame SUV? did fucking Kristopher Columbus take a honda to explore the new world? did Abraham Lincoln discover Lincoln Nebraska in a Toyota matrix? did Lewis an Clark, go on a cross county road trip to sante fe in a Subaru? no certainly not they used ford explorers, this is an insult to history

  9. @jaffacake1578 It does not have 4WD. It has AWD. It is just like any other FWD imitation SUV. Under normal driving conditions, the wrong…er…front wheels drive the vehicle. The rear wheels only engage when the system senses front wheel slip. There is also no low range transfer case that I am aware of. Therefore, not true 4WD.

  10. Its an amazing car. maybe it wasnt a good idea to change it over to a crossover. but im sure its going to sell. people love the explorer.

  11. jaffacake1578 on July 31st, 2010 at 12:32 pm

    @tjhaywood100 no, it has 4wd

  12. I predict this new imitation Explorer will last a couple of years and then Ford will stop building it due to lack of interest and tons of hate mail from “real” Explorer owners.

  13. @rebturtle
They probably already have. I have gotten over 25mpg from a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer with a 302 V-8 and AWD and 130K miles on the clock. So you can’t tell me it can’t be done. The auto manufacturers just don’t want to do it. FWD crossovers are for sissy-boys and soccer moms. Real men drive REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE! And that’s the way it is.

  14. @jaffacake1578

It’s not a true SUV. It’s a crossover. There’s a huge difference. A true SUV is truck-based with a chassis under it and REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE. Not some puny little wrong wheel drive unibody joke on wheels like this crappy little thing will be. If this was Ford’s plan, they should have let the Explorer name die with dignity instead of slapping it on some FWD piece of $hit imitation SUV. I will never own another Explorer newer than a 2010. And that makes me sad.

  15. this sucks i got head for the first time in an explorer when i took my gf to her sweet 16, now wtf my son cant do the same thing? hell have to get head in some shitty crossover? yeah right

  16. jaffacake1578 on July 31st, 2010 at 3:57 pm

@UBBERTANKER no it didn’t, it is still what you americans call an SUV

  17. @APFlynn When they can get a traditional SUV to get 30MPG, they will return and sell like hotcakes. In other words, learn to like crossovers, because that’s all you’re going to get unless you build it yourself.

  18. SOURCE4STANDS on July 31st, 2010 at 4:28 pm

    It’s a FORD — What More Can I say

  19. i’m currently looking for an suv..and it seems everything is a fucking crossover now.

  20. the explorer went crossover lol what a joke.

  21. raulecalderon on July 31st, 2010 at 6:10 pm

  22. dude i dont like front facia. it looks like landrover!!!

  23. Mr00fireman00 on July 31st, 2010 at 6:59 pm

    what’s this ? it’s afucking crossover

    we want real SUV
    like
hummer h3 or toyota 4runner or nissan pathfinder or jeep grand cherokee

  24. @tjhaywood100 True, true. But will this model be soled in the Middle East, as the current Explorer has high sales over Qatar, Bahrain and the UAE, especially with buyers from the UK.

  25. @drvonhoss lol i wouldnt get a tahoe. for the obvious reasons, bad fuel economy, cheap interior, a huge rip off too…and much more. but do what u want
